You need to attack the most cluttered areas first and, for most pack rats, these tend to be the bedroom closets and the bathroom vanity cabinets. Take a trash bag, roll up your sleeves, and, for the bathroom, put on some elbow length gloves if you have some! This precaution is just in case things might be worse than you thought. Try to make a few rules for yourself. Since you have held onto everything for this long, you might be reluctant to get rid of a few items. It is time to be ruthless so everything you have not used for at least six months must go! It does not matter if it is something you might need again five years down the road. In all likelihood, it will be expired/dried out by then, so it needs to be tossed. Once everything has been removed from the cabinets, start scrubbing. You will feel much more motivated to keep these bathroom vanity compartments clutter free if you make them look as good as new now…
